Firefighters found flames shooting out of the roof of the home around 4:15 p.m. on Castletown Court Saturday, Dec. 31, the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Company
The homeowner left a pan of oil heating on the stove unattended before the blaze broke out, the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said in a release.
The smoke detector went off and the man suffered burns to his wrist trying to put out the fire. He brought himself to the hospital. He and his nephew were being assisted by the Red Cross. A firefighter was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Nearly $150,000 in damages were reported.
